The Coca Cola company, who you might expect to be a bit of a pariah for many ‘credible’ musicians, managed to tempt the White Stripes Jack Black into creating a unique soundtrack for their advertising in 2006, have now persuaded the biggest selling UK artist of 2008 to become the new face of the brand. Duffy is to be the star of the brand’s new Europe-wide ad campaign for Diet Coke.
Duffy claims that she loves the attitude of this new Diet Coke ad, “I drink so much of the stuff, they were either going to give me shares in the company or put me in the advert”.
While Coke Marketing Chief Cathryn Sleight claims “we have a strong heritage in creating entertaining and memorable advertising for ‘diet Coke’ that is loved by our female fans. Our campaigns are well known for tapping into a powerful social and cultural zeitgeist and Duffy is a great embodiment of today’s modern female attitudes. She has a strong appeal with our core female audience and we’re confident that this campaign will become just as iconic as previous ‘diet Coke’ advertising campaigns”.
Duffy follows the Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin who was also the voice of a Coke radio commercial way back in 1967. A year later, she appeared in this Coca-Cola magazine ad: “Aretha comes on for Coca-Colaâ€.
