Welcome to NOTWORK the first in what we hope will be a regular night brought to you by citizensound, with help and support from our good friends at last.fm

The idea is to provide you with a great evenings entertainment that showcases some of the most exciting new bands and DJs on offer - be it indie, hip hop, grime, nu folk, jazz, R&B or some other newfangled genre that hasn’t even been invented yet!

So we hope you can come and join us for our first night, which is our Xmas present to you. And to make it really special not only is it FREE entry to invited guests, but there will also be a supply of FREE drink, well at least until our credit cards go into meltdown!

So who will you get to see at the first tribute to NOTWORK?

The Old Romantic Killer Band

citizensound’s Paul Bay and Nick Watt first came across the old Romantics at last year’s In The City music industry love in and conference in the aptly named Bedlam Bar in Manchester. And we both got very excited! This fantastic two-piece blew us away. We loved Harry’s amazing voice and great guitar playing, but most of all we loved his songs. Sadly original drummer Bunce and his amazing haircut has gone to pastures new, but Harry is now joined by the very excellent Greg on drums.

Harry’s influences include everything from top blues men Son House and Skip James, right through to Detroit House, eccentric music press darlings Wild Beasts, Ryan Adams and Nirvana.

E.J.

“E.J. is young woman born to a Cuban father and a Belgian mother in Sweden. Having grown up in a large extended family of so many cultures music has always played a very important role, allowing E.J. to naturally explore music as an everyday gift, frequently singing in church and in front of the family where her powerful voice was often out at the front for leads. E.J. is not only a singer she is also a songwriter, a piano player, a guitarist, and saxophonist who also programmes a bit. Having worked along side very talented people such as Kanye West, John Legend, Skinnyman, Shola Ama and Big Brovas, E.J. is now in the process of working on her debut album.”

We saw her play at a music industry unsigned event and fell in love with her! We loved her sassyness,  we loved her music, and we hope you will too!

Jean-Claude

Jean-Claude is probably better known as one-half of DJ parthership “The Amalgamation Of Soundz”, who have also released a number of 12”s on different labels such as Filter, Ubiquity, Compost and the legendary Blue Note records. Jean-Claude has a residency at Fabric and also regularly DJ’s some of London’s top clubs with the mix of leftfield beats. Besides dj-ing and producing Jean-Claude runs boutique music store if music.
